Bullying and Harassment: Investigation Procedures that Meet WorkSafeBC Expectations

Conduct fair, preventive investigations and ensure procedures are followed.

WorkSafeBC states employers must implement procedures for bullying and harassment, and the procedures must be followed and designed to respond reasonably and prevent recurrence. WorkSafeBC provides an investigations guide for bullying and harassment that outlines a step-by-step process. CCOHS provides complementary definitions and framing about workplace violence/bullying and harassment prevention.

Focus investigations on system risks (supervision, workload, role clarity, environment) and implement corrective actions that reduce recurrence. Document processes and follow-up as due diligence evidence.

  • Use staged investigation protocols with triage; document findings and prevention-focused corrective actions; follow up to verify risk reduction.
